About Us

St. Mary Parish consists of both St. Mary Catholic Church and St. Joseph Catholic Church. Since June 2017, the parish councils and administrative staffs have married the sacramental, missionary, and administrative lives of these two great and storied Catholic communities. Today St. Mary Parish provides a home for a widely diverse congregation. Many are lifetime members of St. Mary Parish, the descendants of the founding families and early immigrants. Others have joined the parish more recently, and still others come to the community for only a short time to purse academic programs or temporary employment in the area. Single people and families from New Haven, Hamden, West Haven, East Haven, as well as surrounding towns join together to worship in liturgy and to receive the preached word at St. Mary's, as it continues to be a primary Catholic presence in downtown New Haven, Connecticut.

Mission Statement

We, the members of St. Mary’s Parish, with the influence and presence of the Venerable Father Michael J. McGivney, form a parochial community in downtown New Haven. Guided by the Dominican spirituality that is committed to proclaiming the living Word of God, we profess our faith in the one, holy, catholic and apostolic Church. Through the celebration of sacraments and liturgies, we are enriched to proclaim and witness the Good News. We embrace our mission of building the kingdom of God on earth, and respond to our divine graces, gifts and charisms by serving the spiritual, social, and material needs of people everywhere.
